Our History

In August of 2017, Joe Shapiro, a software developer, music store/school owner and life-long lover of jazz guitar joined forces with musician/composer/marketing entrepreneur Natalie Hamilton. Both being life-long students of music, they were equally disheartened by the decline of fully funded music programs in public schools and a growing lack of meaningful, well-paid work for professional, working-class musicians. So, they decided to do something about it.

Together they founded The Banko’s Music Foundation and quickly got to work creating their first major event: "Rock The Summer For Music Education", in partnership with The City of Ansonia, at Connecticut's Nolan Field and Athletic Complex. The concert, slated for Saturday, July 28th 2018 will be the grand kick-off event to forward the mission of the foundation and to raise funds for music education and scholarships.

They have also created the STOMP Program - to recognize and award distinguished music students at the local public schools (chosen by their teachers) each marking period.

Our dream? To nurture a society that values music education for children - and the grown up children that keep it all going - those life-long students of music; just like Joe and Natalie.

Because Music Matters.
